Full description
You’ll set off from the edge of Lake Shkoder and follow the Buna River, where the views constantly change: wide open lake horizons, bridges overhead, and the silhouette of Rozafa Castle nearby. As you continue, the Drini River joins the Buna, the water feels cooler, and the river gains a little more movement, just enough to make it exciting, still calm enough to stay relaxing.
Before you go, Drini’s team sets you up with:
- a detailed map + route briefing (with key points marked for photos, swim spots, breaks, and safe lines),
- guidance on currents and pacing,
- and WhatsApp support, so they can keep track of you and help if you need anything.
At the end of your route, you’ll arrive at your chosen finish point, usually with an easy place to wait (and refuel) while the team coordinates your transfer back.
Choose 1 of 3 self-guided route options
Option 1: Obot Village (18 km | ~4-5 hours)
Paddle toward Obot with castle views, bridge crossings, and a satisfying river journey feel. Finish at a small bar where you can enjoy a drink in the shade while waiting for transfer.
Option 2: Dajci Village (19 km | ~5 hours)
A similar distance with an especially convenient finish at Restaurant Lumi i Jetës, great for a relaxed meal or drinks by the water (beach or tree shade) while your pickup is arranged.
Option 3: Bregica Beach (26 km | ~6–7 hours)
The long, memorable one. Finish at Bregica Beach, a surprising sandy stretch near the Albania–Montenegro border (if you stop on the right/western bank, you are in Montenegro). A local spot at the end makes it easy to grab food/drinks while waiting.
Meeting point
Watersport center in Shiroka
(Exact location details will be provided after booking)

We rented two paddle boards to explore the lake and river on our own. It was an amazing experience, super relaxing paddling down the river. We came by rental car, which wasn’t a problem at all despite our one-way paddle trip, because they offered either to pick us up or drive our rental to the pickup point for us. How handy is that! Drini is a great guy who told us a lot about Albanian culture, even though we didn’t book the guided tour. All in all, we had a blast!

The team of employees is young and energetic, they know what you need. Ypu rent sup and waterproof bags. The rental went smooth, you have 2 options longer or shorter, depends on the pickup location. We took shorter and went alone, to paddle first a bit on the lake and then to on the river. We gave car keys and they drove our car to exit point, they arranged the key pickup and everything went smooth and safe. It is great to see pelicans, ducks, coots and other birds, but be careful to not disturb them, and stay away from the nature reserve. Paddling on the river is easy, water is calm like the lake. Don't forget to bring enough water and snacks.

Visited September 25. One of the best things I've done in Albania. Had the whole lake to ourselves. Staff were very informative, had all the gear like dry bags etc all included if needed. They even drove my rental car downstream to where we planned to meet with them to drop the paddle boards off. Definitely recommend doing this if you are in the area.

Had the greatest time on the Buna River! The manager speaks perfect English, is very friendly and keeps track of you via WhatsApp location share 🏞️ The route is quite easy (not a lot of current on the lake, some current on the river), the equipment is great and you get to pick the amount of km’s you want to do and the organization picks you (and the SUP) up at the finish. Make sure to bring water during the trip! Water can be bought at the nearby shop. The company also gladly fills your empty water bottles at the start of the route 🚰 We had lunch during our trip at Dream Land Shkoder, a campground where you can just freely disembark at the plastic, inflated dock We saw no one else on the water, so we were all alone in nature. A shame and a blessing at the same time! There’s a lot of birds that can be heard and spotted in their natural habitat

Worth the experience for sure! The 19km was a bit tough, but it was beautiful and the water was super clear with perfect temperature. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
