Rozafa Castle is what remains of a Venetian limestone castle on a rocky hill above Shkodër, with well-preserved stone walls, towers, and gates, and sweeping views of the surrounding rivers, plains, and distant mountains
Insider Tips
From the ramparts, you get a 360-degree panorama of Lake Shkodër, the Lead Mosque, and the junction of the Buna, Drin, and Kir rivers. On a clear day, you can even see deep into Montenegro
Entry is usually 400 LEK (~€4), and the museum requires an additional 200 LEK. The museum contains Illyrian artifacts and medieval weapons that give context to the rubble outside

Rozafa was the final stronghold in Albania to fall to the Ottoman Empire in 1479; the siege was so legendary that the Venetian defenders only surrendered after the Ottomans brought in massive cannons and a force of nearly 80,000 soldiers to subdue the small garrison
