About
The Valbona–Theth hiking trail is a scenic mountain trek in the Albanian Alps, connecting the alpine villages of Valbona and Theth. About 15 km-long, it passes through rugged peaks, alpine meadows, traditional villages, and dramatic river valleys.
Did you know?
The trail follows an ancient mule track that for centuries was the only way for the Shala and Nikaj tribes to trade or resolve "blood feuds" governed by the Kanun (the traditional highland law). During the Cold War, this pass was a heavily militarized "forbidden zone" due to its proximity to the Yugoslavian border, and unauthorized travel here could result in immediate imprisonment
