Palmaria Island is a picturesque island located in the Gulf of La Spezia, near Porto Venere. Known for its stunning natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and rugged coastline, it offers visitors a peaceful retreat with hiking trails, secluded beaches, and panoramic views of the surrounding area
Insider Tips
Palmaria island is the ideal destination for 1-day trips. You can reach it by boat from Portovenere year-round with the Cooperativa dei Barcaioli di Porto Venere. The ride only lasts about 5 minutes. There are three different disembarkation points: Punta Secco, Terrizzo and Spiaggie del Pozzale
Pozzale beach is worth a visit while you're on the island but we recommend water shoes as it is rocky. This is accessibly after a 1 hour hike from the dock on the island and is much quieter than Porto Venere beaches. Note it remains wild and there isn't much infrastructure
Did you know?
The Palmaria island naturally links its history to nearby Portovenere. Already colonized by the Romans, it was conquered by the Lombards, therefore in medieval times it was a possession of the Lords of Vezzano and for a long time of Genoa
