Turner, it’s a must-visit for anyone interested in the evolution of British art, housed in a grand Neoclassical building on the banks of the Thames
Insider Tips
Tate Britain holds the largest collection of British art in the world, with works from famous artists like William Blake, John Constable, and Henry Moore. The Turner Collection alone, which features hundreds of works by J.M.W. Turner, is a highlight for art lovers. The building itself is a stunning piece of Neoclassical architecture!
Tate Britain offers free guided tours that provide in-depth insights into the museum’s key pieces and the history behind them. Tours run most days at 12.00, 13.00 and 14.00 and last around 45 minutes. The meeting point is at the top of the Rotunda stairs and entrance to the Duveens
Did you know?
Tate Britain was originally known as the National Gallery of British Art when it first opened in 1897. It was renamed Tate Gallery in honor of its founder, sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate, whose donation of his art collection helped establish the museum. Today, it is one of four Tate galleries in the UK!
