Step into the Old Town of Kotor and uncover the stories hidden behind its polished stone streets, elegant palaces, and ancient squares. This 1.5h guided walking tour is designed to give you a clear, engaging introduction to the city, blending history, architecture, local life, and useful insider advice into one easy-paced experience.
Your tour begins at the Sea Gate, Kotor’s main entrance, where your guide introduces you to the city’s strategic position inside the Bay of Kotor and explains how this location helped shape its history over the centuries.
Continue to the Square of Arms, the city’s main hub, where you’ll admire landmarks such as the Prince’s Palace, the Guard Tower, the Old Arsenal, and the Clock Tower. Here, you’ll also hear about Kotor’s craftsmen and clockmakers, whose skill once played an important role in the life of the town.
Next, head to the Square of Flour, where the noble past of Kotor comes into focus. As you stand before the Pima Palace and Buća Palace, your guide will share stories of the aristocratic families who once shaped the city’s social and political life.
At the Square of St. Tryphon, pause before one of Kotor’s most iconic landmarks: St. Tryphon’s Cathedral. You’ll hear the legend of the city’s patron saint and gain a deeper appreciation for the cathedral’s architectural importance and cultural meaning.
The route then continues through the Squares of Boka Marine and St. Luke, where Kotor’s maritime traditions and religious heritage meet. Here, you’ll learn how seafaring influenced daily life and how traces of early Christian architecture still remain woven into the city’s fabric.
At the Square of Timber, hear about Blessed Ozana, one of Kotor’s most important historical figures, and see how the Skurda River flows beneath the River Gate, linking the city to its natural surroundings. Then enjoy a short walk along the Northern Wall, where the Skurda once served as a natural moat. This part of the tour adds a dramatic layer to the experience, with stories of siege, defense, and the powerful figures who once threatened the city.
The tour ends back at the Square of Arms, where your guide shares personal recommendations for dining, cafés, and the best ways to continue exploring Kotor on your own. By the end, you’ll leave with more than photos, you’ll have a real sense of the city’s rhythm, character, and history.

Vanja
I’m Vanja, and I love helping guests make sense of Kotor beyond the beautiful stone walls and postcard views. For me, guiding is about turning history into something human, memorable, and fun. I enjoy connecting the city’s big historical moments with the small details people often miss, from noble families and hidden architectural layers to the everyday habits that still shape life in Montenegro today. I do my best to keep history lively, because medieval walls are impressive, but they’re even better when they come with a good story!
