Perast is a picturesque and historic town located on the Bay of Kotor, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and stunning coastal views
Insider Tips
Perast is closed to non-resident cars. You must park at the designated lots at either end of town (North/Risan or South/Kotor side). Parking is roughly €2–€3 per hour or €15 for the day. If you're coming from Kotor, yo ucan take the local "Blue Line" bus. It runs every hour, costs €1.50, and drops you right at the town entrance, saving you the nightmare of parking
For €2.00, you can climb the St. Nicholas Bell Tower (55 meters). The stairs are tight and steep, but the view of the two islands from the top is the definitive "Montenegro shot". Alternatively, take the stairs up towards the Zmajevic Palace for a similar viewpoint (and free)
Did you know?
Despite its tiny size, Perast was so strategically vital and loyal to the Venetian Republic that its citizens were granted the exclusive honor of guarding the Venetian "Gonfalon" (Standard) during times of war. When the Republic finally fell in 1797, Perast was the very last place in the world to lower the Venetian flag, burying it beneath the altar of St. Nicholas Church in a somber funeral ceremony.
